The Club Social y Deportivo Villa Española , shortly Villa Española (nicknamed El Villa ), is a football and boxing club from Montevideo in Uruguay . The club's soccer team plays in the top Uruguayan league, the Primera División , in the 2016 season .
history
The association was founded on August 18, 1940. For the 1998 season, the club's team rose to second in the table for the first time in the Primera División . In 1998 they finished ninth in the overall table. In the following year they were no longer represented in the top class. In the 2000 season, the team secured the second first division promotion in the club's history. Since they could not have a home ground, the season for the team ended after the Apertura , in which they took the penultimate place. Due to the lack of a home ground, the club had to be relegated. The season ended as 18th and therefore bottom of the table.
In 2001 they won the championship title in the Segunda División . The club's soccer team most recently played in the second-highest Uruguayan league in the 2007/08 season. There they sat down in the playoff for promotion against Tanque Sisley . In the Primera División you could not compete in the 2008/09 season due to financial problems. Due to the insolvency of the club, there was no game operation within the framework of the AUF . In the 2013/14 season, the club entered the Segunda B Amateur . After taking second place there after completing the Apertura, the team trained by Líber Vespa secured themselves after first place in the Clausura and annual overall table on April 27, 2014 with a 2-1 victory in the second final over the Apertura winner Oriental de La Paz won the championship. In the 2014/15 season they played again in the second-highest Uruguayan league. At the end of the 2015/16 season, the club's team took second place in the table behind the Rampla Juniors and rose to the Primera División.
