Líber Ernesto Vespa Legarralde (born October 18, 1971 in Montevideo , Uruguay; † July 25, 2018 there ) was a Uruguayan football player and coach.

Player career

society

From 1991 up to and including the Apertura 1994 midfielder Vespa was under contract with the then Uruguayan first division club Cerro . During the Apertura, however, he moved to Argentina but stayed first class with his new employer, the Argentinos Juniors . After the Torneo Clausura in 1998, he moved to Apertura in 1998 for league rivals Rosario Central . For Torneo Clausura 2002, he joined the his time in the Nacional B playing Arsenal de Sarandi on. In the meantime, he was also active here in the Primera División for this club until 2003, and in the 2004 Clausura he has 25 games with two goals at Club Atlético Huracán, which is playing in the Nacional B. He then moved back to Uruguay in the same year and signed again with Cerro. For this club he played the Torneo Clasificatorio 2004 of the Uruguayan First League. In 2005 he completed 26 games (one goal) for the Montevideo Wanderers , in whose roster was still in 2006.

National team

Vespa took part with the Uruguayan U-20 selection at the U-20 South American Championship in 1991 and finished third with the team. During the tournament he was used seven times (two goals) by coach Juan José Duarte . In the same year he played with the Celeste in the Junior World Cup in 1991 , but with the team he was eliminated in the group stage. Vespa was also used as a national player for his country and between October 12, 1997 and July 18, 1999, he played a total of twelve international matches for the Uruguayan national soccer team . He didn't score a goal. With the Celeste he took part in the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup and was used there in four out of five games.

Coaching career

At the beginning of February 2014 Vespa became a trainer at Villa Española, which was then third class . Juan Fígoli was his assistant coach . In April 2014 he celebrated winning the championship in the Segunda B Amateur and thus promotion to the Segunda División for the 2014/15 season. His involvement there ended at the end of June 2015. On September 19 of that year he took over the training management at Club Atlético Torque , whose team he coached until the end of June 2016.

Vespa died on July 25, 2018 at the age of 46 in Montevideo of complications from a stroke .
