The Club Atlético Torque , or Torque for short , (alternatively also known as CA Torque ) is a football club from Montevideo in Uruguay . In the 2018 season he will play in the top division of Uruguay, the Primera División .
At the beginning of April 2017, the City Football Group , which u. a. Manchester City owns the shares in the purchase of Club Atlético Torque.
history
The association was founded on December 26, 2007. On the following day, the club obtained legal capacity as a legal person and was allowed to play. The idea for founding arose in Mexico . The founding fathers were Uruguayan entrepreneurs based in Cancún . The first competition participation took place in the Liga de Punta Carretas . In the 2007/08 season, the club is said to have won the Clausura classification in the Segunda B Amateur . On the other hand, sources referring to Marcelo Yaurreche , the club's namesake, club secretary and first coach of the team in personal union, report that the club's team only started in that league from the 2008/09 season and - after a 9th place in the Apertura - in the Clausura 2009 emerged as the undefeated winner from the half series. The promotion finals against Oriental de La Paz ended with a 2-1 win and a 2-4 defeat for Torque, so that they initially remained in the third-highest Uruguayan league. A request from the club to move up to the Uruguayan second division instead of the final winner did nothing to change that. The opponent had not been able to take advantage of the ascent due to a lack of available playground. However, the AUF rejected the request of Torques.
In the 2011/12 season, Torque decided the Apertura in his favor. Under coach Saúl Rivero , the club became champions in the Segunda B Amateur at the end of the season, after showing one point ahead of the Canadian Soccer Club in the year-end table. With this, the club rose to the Segunda División .
In the first second division season in Uruguayan professional football, they finished fifth in the table at the end of the 2012/13 season, which allowed them to participate in the promotion play-offs. There you reached after you had defeated Atenas and Tacuarembó FC in the quarter-finals or semi-finals , the finals for the third promotion place against Miramar Misiones . The two final games each ended in a draw. Torque lost in the decisive penalty shoot-out. The ascent was just missed. In the following season 2013/14 the team Torques could not build on the successful previous season. With two wins, nine draws and 15 defeats from 26 games they finished last in the table. Nevertheless, the club was also represented in the second-highest Uruguayan league in the 2014/15 season.
Since the end of September 2014, Adrián Colombo was the successor to Saúl Rivero as coach of the second division team. After completing the Apertura 2014, the club's team finished 5th.
Stadion
The club plays its home games in Complejo Daniel Marsicano in Montevideo . The venue has a spectator capacity of 1,000 people. The club premises, which were acquired with funding from a cousin of the club president Aquino, are located at Curuzú Cuatiá 3070.
