Mumbai City FC is an Indian football - Franchise from Mumbai . Indian Bollywood actors Ranbir Kapoor , Kayque Garbacchio Saldanha and Bimal Parekh are part owners of the team. Since 2019 the club has been majority owned by the City Football Group .
history
At the beginning of 2014, the All India Football Federation announced the establishment of a new football league in cooperation with IMG and Reliance Industries . To do this, they were looking for investors for football franchises in eight different cities in India.
Mumbai City's first game took place on October 12th. Against Atlético de Kolkata the team lost 3: 0th However, Mumbai won 5-0 against FC Pune City on Matchday 2 . Here, the Brazilian André Moritz scored the first goal in the history of Mumbai City FC. The team finished the first season in 7th place.
For the new season, Nicolas Anelka took over the position of (player) coach and led the club to the semi-finals of the championship.
Alexandre Guimarães has been the club's coach since 2016 and finished the 2017/18 season in 7th place.
Stadion
Since 2016, the home games have been played in the 18,000-seat Mumbai Football Arena .
Previously it was played at DY Patil Stadium . The stadium was located in the Nerul district on the premises of Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy. The facility, originally designed as a cricket stadium, held 55,000 spectators.
