The Football Club of Pune City was an Indian football franchise based in Pune , Maharashtra . The team last played in the Indian Super League , one of the two highest leagues in the country.

history

founding

At the beginning of 2014, the All India Football Federation announced that it would found a new football league in cooperation with IMG and Reliance Industries . To do this, they looked for investors for football franchises in eight different cities in India.

On April 13, 2014, it was announced that the actor Salman Khan and the Wadhawan Group had won the bid for a franchise in the city of Pune.

First season

On October 14th, Pune City FC played their first game in the ISL. It ended 0-0 against Delhi Dynamos FC . The team lost their second game 5-0 to Mumbai City FC .

resolution

The association was dissolved in 2019 due to financial and technical difficulties.

Stadion

The stadium is located in the suburb of Balewadi, northwest of Pune. The complex consists of several stadiums or grass pitches and halls for different sports. The home games of FC Pune City were played in the main stadium with a capacity of 22,000. The complex is operated by the Indian National Olympic Committee and is owned by the state.

The home games of the I-League club Pune FC were also played here.

owner

The franchise was largely owned by the Wadhawan Group, an investment company around the actor Salman Khan. Furthermore, the Indian actor Hrithik Roshan was co-owner of the team. The Italian soccer club Fiorentina held a 15% stake in FC Pune City.
