The Chennaiyin FC is an Indian football franchise in Chennai , Tamil Nadu .
The Titans were founded in 2014 as part of the founding of the Indian Super League . The owner is the actor Abhishek Bachchan , Vita Dani and the captain of the Indian national cricket team Mahendra Singh Dhoni .

founding
When the Indian Super League was formed in 2013, Chennai was selected as one of the cities a franchise would come from. On April 11, 2014, Sunil Gavaskar's group of investors withdrew. In August 2014, a possible franchise from West Bengal could not be realized. So the ISL was looking for another team. Chennai came back into focus. Indian entertainer Ronnie Screwvala and actor Abhishek Bachchan placed a bid for a possible franchise. This was accepted by the ISL.
The English football expert Prashant Agarwal represented the team at the ISL International Player - Draft. Here the players Bernard Mendy , Cristian Hidalgo , Gennaro Bracigliano , Bojan Djordjic , Eduardo Silva Lerma , Bruno Pelissari and Jairo Suárez were selected as the seven international players.
On September 12th, the Italian soccer player Marco Materazzi became the team's first coach. At the same time he is active as a player.
First season
On October 15, 2014, Chennaiyin FC played its first league game. The game against FC Goa could be won 2-1. The first goal was scored by the Indian international Balwant Singh . On November 28, 2014, the franchise was able to sign the Italian world champion Alessandro Nesta .
At the end of the regular season you were in first place. In the subsequent play-off games they lost in the semi-finals against the Kerala Blasters.
Second season
On October 3, 2015, Chennaiyin FC lost 3-2 in their home game against Atlético de Kolkata . At the end of the regular season, the club finished third behind FC Goa and Atlético de Kolkata and thus moved into the semi-finals against Atlético de Kolkata, which was won 4-2 on a two-way leg. In the final on December 20, 2015, the team won 3-2 against FC Goa.
