The Football Clube Goa is an Indian football - franchise from the Indian state of Goa .

FC Goa was founded for the Indian Super League , which took place for the first time in 2014 . The club plays its home games at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa. The team's first coach is former Brazilian international Zico .

history

founding

At the beginning of 2014, the All India Football Federation announced the establishment of a new football league in cooperation with IMG and Reliance Industries . To do this, they looked for investors for football franchises in eight different cities in India. On April 13, 2014 it was announced that Venugopal Dhoot, an Indian businessman and billionaire, in collaboration with Dattaraj Salgaocar and Shrinivas Dempo, had been awarded the contract to form a football team from Goa. On September 23, 2014, another partner was won with the cricket player Virat Kohli. On September 20, 2014, the former French international Robert Pires was signed as a marquee player.

First season

Goa FC lost their first game in the Indian Super League on October 15, 2014, 2-1 to Chennaiyin FC . Martinique's international Grégory Arnolin scored the first goal in the history of FC Goa .

Stadion

The stadium holds 24,500 spectators and is owned by the Sports Authority of Goa, which is under state administration.

The Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco da Gama is used as a training ground.

Venugopal Dhoot is the chairman of Videocon. This company is mainly active in the consumer electronics and home appliances sectors . Dhoot has a net worth of $ 1.7 billion, according to Forbes magazine.

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is also a co-owner of the franchise. He was awarded the ICC ODI Player of the Year Award in 2012 and is considered the second most valuable player in the world according to the British magazine SportsPro.
