NorthEast United Football Club is an Indian soccer franchise based in Guwahati , Assam . The team plays in the Indian Super League , one of the two highest leagues in the country.

History and owner

In early 2014, the All India Football Federation, in collaboration with Reliance and the International Management Group, announced the establishment of a new football league in India. The licenses for the eight participants from designated cities were auctioned. On April 13, 2014 it was announced that the order for the Guwahati location had been jointly awarded to Bollywood actor, film producer and former photo model John Abraham and the I-League club Shillong Lajong from Shillong , Meghalaya .

Stadion

The club plays its home games at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai . The stadium has a capacity of 35,000 spectators.

Coat of arms, motto and hymn

The Northeast United crest is red, black and white. Above the shield and the name of the club in black capital letters, eight red stars symbolize the eight states of the Indian northeast .

The association's motto ( 8 states. 1 united. ) And its anthem ( We are the 8! ) Also refer to the claimed catchment area, the seven sister states and Sikkim .

We are the 8! was composed and produced by Papon and sung by numerous musicians from the region, including Soulmate , Alobo Naga and the Tetseo Sisters .
