The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (also Marina Arena ) is a multifunctional stadium in Chennai , Tamil Nadu , India with a capacity of 40,000 seats. It is home to soccer games and track and field competitions. Inside the building there is a sports hall with 8,000 seats for volleyball , basketball and table tennis games . Concerts are also held in the stadium. It is named after Jawaharlal Nehru , the first Prime Minister of India. Cricket games were also played here between 1956 and 1965 .
