Leonardo Pais , full name Leonardo Javier Pais Corbo , (born July 7, 1994 in Minas ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

The 1.82 meter tall midfielder Pais plays for Defensor Sporting . In Apertura and Clausura of the 2012/13 season he was used ten times in the Primera División . In the 2013/14 season he ran 13 more times in the Primera División. He scored two hits. He was also used eight times in the Copa Libertadores 2014 and scored one goal in the competition. In the 2014/15 season he was used in three top division games (no goal). This was followed in the 2015/16 season - each without personal scoring - seven further premier league appearances and four in the 2015 Copa Sudamericana . At the end of August 2016, he joined the second division club Atlético Torque .

National team

Pais made his debut on October 28, 2008 under coach Fabián Coito at Torneo Val de Marne in the game against France in the Uruguayan U-15 national team. With the selection, in which he completed a total of 19 international matches (two goals), he took part in the 2009 U-15 South American Championship held in Bolivia . He was also a member of the U-17 in his home country . There he played from his debut on June 23, 2010 in a 2-1 win against the Chilean team in the Torneo Diario La Voz del Interior a total of 35 international matches (two goals). He was a member of Uruguay's squad at the 2011 U-17 South American Championship in Ecuador and the 2011 U-17 World Cup in Mexico . At the World Cup he played in seven tournament games, scored one goal and became vice world champion. On October 5, 2011 Juan Verzeri used him against Argentina for the first time in the Pan America selection (U-22) of Uruguay. With this he then took part in the Pan American Games in 2011 and won the bronze medal with the team. In total, he played three international matches (no goal) in the Pan America selection. In the U-20 national team, he was then also used for the first time under coach Juan Verzeri on June 6, 2012 in the 4-2 win against the USA. Pais was a member of the Uruguayan U-20 squad at the U-20 South American Championship in Argentina in 2013 and played seven games during the tournament. In July 2013 he was then runner-up with Uruguay at the U-20 World Cup 2013 in Turkey . Pais was used in seven games at the World Cup, six of them in the starting XI. So far (as of July 5, 2013) he has completed 30 international matches (one goal) in this age group.
