Juan Verzeri , full name Juan José Verzeri Casas , (born May 20, 1963 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football coach .

Life

Family and education

Verzeri, who graduated from the University of the Republic ended (UdelaR) 1988 successfully as a computer systems engineer and then in 1991 in the Italian Padua at the Università degli Studi di Padova , a Postgraduate studies graduated in mathematics in 2003 took a course of Asociación Cristiana de Jóvenes del Uruguay in Sports Marketing. From 1989 to 2005 he was also an international consultant for Quasam . He is also a lecturer (grado 2) at the engineering faculty of the UdelaR and at the ORT . He was never a professional footballer himself, but was active for 18 years as a player in the Liga Universitaria for Círculo de Tenis in Montevideo. In 1999 Verzeri, who speaks Italian and English in addition to Spanish, completed the ISEF trainer training. In the following year he completed further training as an international coach at the Dutch Football Association in Zeist .

Verzeri, who also has Italian citizenship, is married to Virginia Grinschpun Benech and the father of two sons Santiago and Juan Martín.

Coaching career

Verzeri trained 1998-2000 Círculo de Tenis and was then coach of the league selection at the Universiade in Beijing in 2001. He then belonged to the coaching team of Julio Ribas at Bella Vista , South America , Peñarol and the national team of Oman on . He also won some championships in the Tercera División and the Cuarta División . There he looked after the youth teams of Liverpool Montevideo , River Plate Montevideo and Juventud . Finally, Verzeri took over in 2008 as the successor to José "Nito" Puente the coaching position at Racing Club in the Primera División . He led the club for the first time in the club's history in the Copa Libertadores .

Verzeri then coached the Uruguayan U-20 national team . He made his debut on July 25, 2010 with a 2-1 win in an international friendly against Mexico. He was in charge of the U-20 selection at the U-20 South American Championship in Peru in 2011 , finished second and secured Uruguay there for the first time in 84 years qualification for the Olympic Games. He then took part with the U-20s at the U-20 World Cup in Colombia in 2011 and the 2013 U-20 South American Championship in Argentina . In July 2013, he was runner-up with Uruguay at the U-20 World Cup in Turkey in 2013 . In total, he was responsible for the U-20s in 80 international matches. (As of July 5, 2013) His team won 32 games and lost 19 times. 29 matches ended in a draw. On August 11, 2010 he also looked after the 2010 World Cup instead of Óscar Tabárez the senior national team in the game against Angola . Verzeri is also the coach of the Uruguayan Pan America (U-22) selection team. With this team he took part in the Pan American Games in 2011 and won the bronze medal there. For the Pan America selection he was responsible for a total of six times from his first international match on October 5, 2011. His record shows three wins, one draw and two defeats.

At the beginning of January 2014, Verzeri became the coach of the Saudi Arabian association al-Ittihad . He signed a one and a half year contract. This commitment ended in March 2014. In June 2015, the club Liverpool Montevideo, who had returned to the Primera División, announced their commitment as head coach for the following first division season. At the beginning of November of that year, the collaboration ended after eleven match days (4 wins, 2 draws, 5 defeats) and a 4-0 defeat against Danubio FC . In December 2015, he took over the position of assistant coach at Atlético Mineiro alongside Diego Aguirre .
