The Canadian Soccer Club , or Canadian for short, is a soccer club originally from Montevideo in Uruguay , which has played its home games in Sarandí Grande inland since 2016 . The club's soccer team plays in the second highest Uruguayan league, the Segunda División , in the 2016 season .
history
The association was founded by Fernando Aldao and Gustavo Urraburu at the end of 2010 in order to provide the Uruguayan and South American communities living in Canada with a team to represent them. The club joined the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol (AUF). Osvaldo Streccia and Héctor Ifran were hired to put together a team of uncommitted players. Two Uruguayan-Canadian dual nationals then joined the club. On March 8, 2011 they completed the first friendly against Institución Atlética Potencia , which was played in Parque ANCAP . They won 2-0 with goals from Cabrera and Cafre. The club's team finally made their debut in the Segunda B Amateur on October 2, 2011 with a 2-1 home win over Basáñez . In that season, they promptly won the Torneo Clausura , but could not prevail in the promotion duel for entry into the Segunda División , Uruguay's second-highest division, against Torque . Under coach Jorge González they were then in the following season both champions of Torneo Clausura of the 2012/13 season, and after a 4-3 win over Uruguay Montevideo on April 26, 2013 title holder of the overall season. Thus, the club has been playing in Uruguay's second highest professional league since the 2013/2014 season.
Stadion
Both the 8,000-seat Estadio Obdulio Varela in Montevideo and the Estadio Batalla de Sarandí in Sarandí Grande are specified as the club's venue . At the end of 2016 it was announced that the team will play their home games in Sarandí Grande in the future, in particular to attract a higher number of spectators. According to club president Fernando Aldao, the now calculated 2,000 visitors per game could not be reached for the club in Montevideo.
