Kurt Ehrenberg

Kurt Ehrenberg (born November 22, 1896 in Vienna ; † October 6, 1979 ibid) was an Austrian paleontologist and speleologist .

Life

Ehrenberg studied at the University of Vienna from 1915 , interrupted by military service from 1916 to 1918, where he received his doctorate in 1921. phil. received his doctorate and habilitation in palaeobiology in 1923 . He was Othenio Abel's assistant from 1923 to 1936 and married his daughter in 1924. In 1929 Ehrenberg was tit. Associate Professor and in 1937 Associate Professor. Between 1942 and 1945 he was a full professor of paleontology and paleobiology and head of the institute for these subjects at the University of Vienna. Ehrenberg had been a member of the NSDAP since 1941 . In 1945 he was removed from service and retired in 1947 with a reduction in his pension. In 1953 he received a Venia legendi for speleology at the University of Vienna, and had a teaching position for this subject from 1957 to 1971.

Kurt Ehrenberg researched fossil echinoderms , trace fossils and fossilization , but especially fossil mammals of the Pleistocene .
