Friedrich Bachmayer

Friedrich Bachmayer (born September 10, 1913 in Kamegg , † July 25, 1989 in Vienna ) was an Austrian paleontologist .

Life

Bachmayer studied paleontology at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1940 . Since 1939 he was in the Wehrmacht, from 1942 to 1945 as a military geologist in Norway. From 1949 until his retirement he was employed at the Natural History Museum in Vienna. There he became director of the geological-paleontological department in 1966 and first director of the museum in 1971. He was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .

Bachmayer dealt with the paleontology of Austria and wrote about 150 scientific papers on it.
