The Club Atlético Basáñez shortly Basáñez (nickname: El Basa , Rojinegro , Sangre y Luto ), is a football and boxing club from the district Malvín Norte in Montevideo , Uruguay . The club plays in the amateur league Segunda B Amateur in the 2012/13 season and is third in the table after the Torneo Apertura. (As of December 5, 2012)

history

The name of the association, founded on April 1, 1920, can be traced back to the Calle Tomás Basáñez , which in turn was named after Tomas Basáñez († February 27, 1873). This comrade-in- arms Manuel Oribes was a philanthropic landowner residing in Barrio Cardal who made land available to the church as well as for other community purposes. In addition, in 1849, Tomás Basáñez was the founder of Villa Restauración . The club began with the official league game operations in the Divisional Extra of the Federación Uruguaya de Football . In 1925 one rose to the intermedia of this association. When the split in Uruguayan football was lifted in the mid-1920s, it was initially played on a barrial level. In 1948 they returned to the Divisional Extra under the umbrella of the AUF . Basáñez won the championship there in 1959. In 1975 they co-founded the Primera "C" , the league predecessor of Intermedia . Around 14 years later, in 1989, he won the championship in the Segunda B Amateur (formerly Primera Divisional "C"). After the promotion to the highest Uruguayan league already in 1992, this ultimately failed because the club was deducted a few points after arguments between its fans and the mounted police at the game against Villa Teresa . The team's attack at the time consisted of "Lucho" Romero and Juan González , who both later moved to Peñarol and Nacional Montevideo respectively .

In the following year, the club won the championship of the second highest Uruguayan league, the Segunda División and rose for the first time in the club's history in the 1st division of Uruguay, the Primera División. In addition to the aforementioned strikers, Miguel Ángel Puppo's team included goalkeeper Loco Navarro as well as Cuchillo Quevedo and Jacinto Cabrera . In the following first division year, Julio Aude's team and still in the storm with Lucho Romero and, among others, Arsenio Luzardo initially surprised positively. In the Torneo Apertura , they took second place in the final table straight away. However, the team reversed this success in the following Clausura and only finished penultimate in this round. In the overall standings, however, this was enough for sixth place. After a total of two seasons, however, the club rose again in 1995 on the side of Progreso . In the 2008/09 season, financial problems then prevented another game operation in the Segunda División. Initially, they competed in the Apertura in the Segunda B Amateur , but eventually withdrew completely from the game.

The football division of the club, whose club colors black and red refer to the anarchist flag, is currently not represented in the first or second professional league. However, the club can already look back on two completed seasons in the Primera División and 20 in the Segunda División in the course of the club's history. While there are a total of 50 first division games with eleven defeats, 18 draws and 21 defeats, the record in the second professional league consists of 476 games with 176 wins, 142 draws and 158 defeats.

In the 2010/11 season, the club played in the Segunda Divisional Amateur and was fifth in the Apertura and sixth in the Clausura.
