Federación Uruguaya de Football

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Federación Uruguaya de Football (FUF) was a football association in Uruguay .

At the end of 1922, the organizational structure of Uruguayan football was split into two associations. The founding of the FUF in 1923 by the clubs Peñarol and Central , which had been excluded from the AUF, with the addition of other clubs, resulted in a split of part of the Uruguayan football structure from the original association, the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol (AUF). This split-up situation lasted from November 14, 1922, when the two clubs were disqualified by the AUF, until October 9, 1925.

During this period, the FUF played its own championship in parallel in 1923 and 1924. Masters of the FUF in these two years were the Atlético Wanderers (1923) and Peñarol (1924). However, these championship titles are not officially recognized these days. The championship round in 1925 was not finished in either association. The award of the then Uruguayan President José Serrato , called Laudo Serrato , finally ended the split of the associations. The leagues were merged into a single in 1926 and a qualifying round was played to determine the composition of the Primera División in the 1927 season. The FUF also set up its own national selection during the time of the so-called schism of Uruguayan football.
