The Arsenal Fútbol Club , mostly just called Arsenal FC or Arsenal de Sarandí , is an Argentine football club from Sarandí in Partido Avellaneda , an industrial suburb of the Argentine capital in the province of Buenos Aires .

history

Arsenal was founded in 1957 by the brothers Héctor and Julio Grondona , who took their club name from the English club Arsenal London . The club colors (light blue-red) were inspired by the two city rivals Racing Club de Avellaneda and Independiente . Julio Grondona was named the club's first president and later became president of the Argentine Football Association, the post he still holds. Since 2002 you have been playing in the Primera División again after being repeatedly promoted and relegated. The club won its first national title in June 2012 when it won the Torneo Clausura .

In 2004, 2007 and 2008 Arsenal took part in the Copa Sudamericana , which they won in 2007. In 2008 Arsenal took part in the Copa Libertadores for the first time and so far ; in the Recopa Sudamericana they failed because of the Boca Juniors . The Copa Suruga Bank , however, was won against Gamba Osaka .

The club had agreed to cooperate with the top Catalan club FC Barcelona since 2006 . This collaboration says that youth players who have not been in the Sarandí first team for more than a year can be signed by "Barça". In return, Barcelona promised to help the Argentines with the club's infrastructure. However, the relationship was broken off by Arsenal in 2007 because the conditions regarding the structure could not be met.
