Jorge Luis Burruchaga (born October 9, 1962 in Gualeguay , Entre Rios province ) is a former Argentine football player and coach. The football world champion from 1986 played at club level primarily for CA Independiente and in France for FC Nantes and FC Valenciennes .
Career
society
El Burro ("the donkey") began his career at the suburban club Arsenal de Sarandí in Bonaren . The attacking midfielder , who at times also played right winger, came to CA Independiente in 1982 , where he was promoted to Argentina international in 1983 . In 1985 he went to Europe and spent seven years in France with FC Nantes . In 1992 he moved from Nantes to Valenciennes FC , where he was involved in a manipulation scandal after a game against Olympique Marseille . This resulted in a two-year ban in France in 1994. He then moved back to Argentina in 1995, where he played for three years at his old club Independiente.
National team
Burruchaga first played for Argentina in 1983. At the Copa América 1983 he was among other players top scorer of the tournament. The highlight of his career was the 1986 World Cup in Mexico , where he became world champion with Argentina and scored two goals. In the final against Germany , after Germany had caught up 2-0 deficit and the game threatened to tip over, he scored the decisive third goal of the 3-2 win after a pass from Diego Maradona and became the great hero of the tournament alongside Maradona. He was also part of the Argentine tribe at the 1990 World Cup . He took part in every game and scored once in the preliminary round in a 2-0 win against the Soviet Union. In the World Cup final, Burruchaga was substituted in the 53rd minute. The German national team managed to take revenge for the defeat of 1986 and won 1-0. He played 59 times for Argentina between 1983 and 1990, scoring 13 goals.
Trainer
After finishing his playing career, Burruchaga was coach. First he worked for the second division club CSD Defensa y Justicia and CA Los Andes . From 2002 to 2005 he coached Arsenal de Sarandí, from 2006 to 2007 Independiente. In 2008 he became a coach at CA Banfield , in the following year he again took over the league rivals Arsenal de Sarandí. From 2011 to 2012 he was in the service of the Paraguayan Club Libertad . From 2012 to 2014 and again from 2015 to 2016 he coached Atlético de Rafaela .
Private
Burruchaga married Fabiola Paula, a daughter of Néstor "Pipo" Rossi , who himself was an outstanding player in the 1940s and 1950s and was then successful as a coach.
