Julio Jorge Olarticoechea (born October 18, 1958 in Saladillo ) is a retired Argentine football player .

Career

society

The 1.69 m tall midfielder played for Racing Club de Avellaneda until 1981 and then moved to River Plate in Buenos Aires. After a brief stint at Boca Juniors , he moved to France for a year at FC Nantes in July 1985 . In 1987 he played for one season for the Argentinos Juniors before returning to Racing Club de Avellaneda in July 1988, where he was active until 1990. At the end of his career he played three years for Deportivo Mandiyú de Corrientes.

National team

Olarticoechea took part in three world championships with the Argentine national soccer team. In 1982 Argentina failed in the second round to Brazil, but Olarticoechea was not used. In 1986 he won the World Cup title with Argentina, Olarticoechea played in all seven games, including the final against the Federal Republic of Germany . In 1990 he was runner-up after a 1-0 defeat against the Federal Republic of Germany, where Olarticoechea was there in five games, but was not allowed to participate in the final because of his second yellow card in the semifinals against Italy. In total, Olarticoechea played in 32 international matches from 1982 to 1990.
