Héctor Zelada (born April 30, 1958 in Maciel , Santa Fe Province ), also known by the nickname El Cabezón , is a former Argentine football goalkeeper who was part of the squad of the 1986 world championship .
Life
Héctor Miguel Zelada began his professional career in 1976 at his hometown club Rosario Central and moved to the Mexican first division club América in 1978 , where he was under contract for almost a decade and with whom he won the Mexican championship three times in a row in the 1980s .
With a penalty in the final second leg of the 1983/84 season against the great arch rival Chivas Guadalajara , Zelada had a significant share in the Americanistas' first title win in eight years, which was followed by the next title in the two following seasons (1984/85 and Prode 85).
Zelada, who is seen by many fans of Club America as the best goalkeeper in the club's history, played his first game for America on March 4, 1979 in a Superclásico against Chivas Guadalajara, which was played at the Estadio Jalisco and ended goalless. He played his last game for America on May 8, 1987 in a 1-1 draw against Club León in the Aztec Stadium in Mexico City .
As the home ground of Club América, the Aztec Stadium was not only his field of activity for eight years, but also the place of his greatest triumph, although he was only passively involved in it. Because in “his” stadium the third goalkeeper of the Argentine national soccer team belonged to the selection that won the 1986 soccer world championship with a 3-2 final victory over Germany.
