The Segunda División ( Spanish Second Division ; sponsor name LaLiga SmartBank ) is the second division in Spanish football . From 2006 to 2008 the league was due to sponsorship by the Spanish bank BBVA named Liga BBVA . When the Primera División took over this name for the 2008/09 season , the league was renamed Liga Adelante ( Spanish league forward ). In 2016, the league signed a sponsorship deal with Banco Santander , after which it was named LaLiga 1 | 2 | 3 or LaLiga 2 for short .
It currently consists of 22 teams. Three of them off at each end of the season in the Primera División, four third in the four-membered league Segunda División B from. Since the third league since the 1977-78 season Segunda B means the second division is often called Segunda A designated.
