Club Deportivo Castellón is a Spanish football club of the Segunda División B from Castellón de la Plana , Valencia . The association was founded in 1922. The home games take place in the Nou Castalia stadium , which can seat 16,000 people.

history

The idea of ​​founding an association came up in Castellón as early as 1911. Different names appeared then and in the following years: "Deportivo", "Castalia", "Gimnástico", "Cultural" and "Cervantes". On July 22nd, 1922, the "Club Deportivo Castellón" was founded as a merger of the two clubs "CD Castilia Castellón" and "CD Cervantes Castellón de la Plana". In 1923 the team played against "Cervantes" in the opening game of the Estadio El Madrigal in Villarreal .

1941 Castellón rose for the first time in the Primera División . The club's greatest successes are fourth place (1943) and two fifth places (1944, 1973) in the Primera División. In 1973 the club reached the cup final , but lost to Athletic Bilbao . Back then, Vicente del Bosque , who later became famous at Real Madrid , was playing in Castellón. On August 29, 1991 the club was converted into a SAD. In the same year, the club was relegated to the Segunda División after finishing the championship in 19th place.

The 2004/05 season ended in fourth place in the Segunda Division B. You won both play-off games and thus rose to the Segunda División . In the 2009/10 season, he was relegated to the Segunda B. Due to unpaid player salaries, Castellón 2011 had to relegate to the Tercera División .
