history

SD España Industrial , founded in 1934, was the first team to be officially considered a reserve team for FC Barcelona . This club was renamed in 1956 in CD Condal , as it wanted to participate in the first division as an independent team in the 1956/57 season . After reintegration into FC Barcelona, CD Condal served as a reserve team again from 1968.

In 1970 the then president of FC Barcelona decided to merge the CD Condal and the youth team Atlètic Catalunya . The resulting team was initially called FC Barcelona Atlètic , until it was given its current name FC Barcelona B in 1991 ; from 2008 to 2010 the team was called again FC Barcelona Atlètic .

Since the team was founded, Barcelona B has belonged to the second Spanish league for almost half of all seasons and was thus an integral part of Spanish professional football. Unlike in Germany, B-teams from a first division club are also allowed to compete in the second-highest division. Every player has a professional contract, as the team is by no means a pure youth team. In 1999, the team rose from the second division to the third division, the Segunda División B , from. After eight years in the Segunda División B, relegation to the Tercera División followed in the 2006/07 season . Under the then new coach Pep Guardiola , the team succeeded in being promoted as first place one year later. Guardiola was then named head coach of the first team and Luis Enrique took over his post.

In the 2009/10 season Barcelona Atlètic reached second place in Segunda División B and thus qualified for the relegation games to the Segunda División . After the team prevailed in the relegation final against local rivals UE Sant Andreu , the team has been playing in the second Spanish league again since the 2010/11 season . In its first second division season in eleven years, Barcelona B then finished third, the best placement in the club's history. From the 2011/12 season, the team was trained by Eusebio Sacristán , with whom the team also took third place in the 2013/14 season . After a sporting downturn, Eusebio was released in February 2015 and initially replaced by Jordi Vinyals, who, however, could not prevent relegation as bottom of the table.

Gerard López took over the team for the 2015/16 season . In the 2017/18 season , the team played in the second-rate Segunda División after advancing through the playoffs. Towards the end of the 2017/18 season, López was fired and replaced by Garcia Pimienta , who looked after the U-19s from Barça. The relegation to the Segunda División B could not be prevented.
