The Estadi Johan Cruyff ( Catalan for Johan Cruyff Stadium , Spanish Estadio Johan Cruyff ) is a football stadium in the Spanish metropolis of Barcelona , autonomous community of Catalonia . The venue bears the name of the Dutch football player Johan Cruyff in memory , this was decided by FC Barcelona at the end of March 2017 on the occasion of the first anniversary of Cruyff's death. It is located on the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training ground . The facility is the home ground of the second men's team , A-youth and the women's team of FC Barcelona .
history
Construction of the stadium began on September 14, 2017 with the laying of the foundation stone . The date of the start of construction has a special symbolism. The world-class player, who died on March 24, 2016, wore shirt numbers 14 and 9 in his career. The football club stated that the construction costs were twelve million euros . The stadium with seats has 6,000 seats and meets UEFA stadium category 3 . The new stadium replaced the Mini Estadi from 1982 as the home ground of the second men's team and the women's team of FC Barcelona. In addition, the A-youth plays their games in the small football arena. Completion was initially planned for November 2018, but was postponed to June 2019. The Mini Estadi is to give way for the planned renovations at Camp Nou and the new multi-purpose hall of the club.
On August 27, 2019, the stadium was opened with a game between the A-Juniors (U19) from Barça and Ajax Amsterdam (0-2). Jordi Cruyff , the son of Johan, symbolically opened the game at the inauguration of the Estadi Johan Cruyff. The evening before, a 3.5 meter high and 1.5 ton heavy bronze statue of Johan Cruyff was unveiled at Camp Nou.
