Career

society

Pérez started playing football at the age of five at Vilanova del Vallès near his hometown. He switched to CF Damm when he was eight . Via the youth of Espanyol Barcelona , Pérez moved to the youth of FC Barcelona in 2012 , where he went through all youth teams. With the A-Jugend (U19), Pérez played 24 times (11 goals) in the UEFA Youth League , which FC Barcelona won in 2018, in the 2015/16 , 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons . Already in October 2015 Pérez played as A-Junior once in the second team in the third-tier Segunda División B .

For the 2017/18 season, Pérez moved firmly into the squad of the second team. He came to 27 appearances in the Segunda División , in which he scored 3 goals. At the end of the season, the second team rose again to the Segunda Division B. Also in the 2018/19 season, Pérez was a regular in the second team, for which he made 26 third division appearances, in which he scored 9 goals. He also made his debut on the last day of the game under head coach Ernesto Valverde in the first team in the Primera División , making him Spanish champion.

Due to the injury-related failures of Ousmane Dembélé , Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, Pérez moved up to the first team together with the U19 player Ansu Fati before the 2019/20 season . In the first third of the season under Valverde, he was often used in the starting line-up and scored his first goal in the Primera División on matchday two. He also played once in the Champions League on the last day of the group , scoring one goal. By the end of January 2020, Pérez had played 11 times (5 times from the start) in the Primera División and scored one goal. For the second team, he was only used once again in November.

At the end of January 2020, Pérez moved to the Italian Serie A for AS Roma . Officially, it was initially loaned for a fee of one million euros until the end of the 2019/20 season. AS Rom is then obliged to acquire the transfer rights to Pérez for 11 million euros (plus bonus payments of up to 4.5 million euros) and to sign him by June 30, 2024.

National team

Carles Pérez has played many times in the youth teams of the Spanish selection. When he started with the U16, he quickly became a regular in the storm. On June 27, he scored the goal for a 1-1 draw against tournament host Azerbaijan, making the selection the semi-finals of the presidential cup.

Two days later he was back in the starting XI against Georgia and scored the first goal in the final, which was decided with many goals in Spain's favor.

In addition, Pérez played and scored for the U17s from 2014 to 2015.

On September 6, 2019, he played his first game for the U21s in the UEFA U21 Championship in a 1-0 win against Kazakhstan, was in the starting line-up and was replaced by Ferrán Torres in the 46th minute .

Style of play

Pérez's style of play has been compared by the media to that of Arjen Robben . Robben is also the role model of the young player. Similar to Robben, Pérez is a footballer with a lot of strength and speed and a good shot. Furthermore, he is not the typical striker who dribbles a lot and is looking for one-on-one situations, but prefers to control the ball on the right side lane, pulls inwards (like Robben) and kicks off with a shot on goal from outside the penalty area.
