Gianluca Mancini (born April 17, 1996 in Pontedera ) is an Italian football player . The central defender is under contract with the Italian first division club Atalanta Bergamo and plays on loan at AS Roma .

Club career

Mancini played in his youth for Valdarno Calcio and later for Fiorentina . He was active for their U19s until 2015 before he was loaned to Perugia Calcio for a year . After the loan ended, he was signed by Perugia. In January 2017, Atalanta Bergamo secured the services of the central defender for around 300,000 euros. At the same time, goalkeeper Alessandro Santopadre , the son of the chairman of Perugia, Massimiliamo Santopadre , was signed for one million euros. Both players were loaned back after the purchase until the end of the season. The public prosecutor later accused the two clubs of manipulating sales prices in a lawsuit in which Fiorentina appeared as plaintiff and injured party. Mancini's market value was significantly higher and Santopadre's market value was lower than the sales suggested. Fiorentina signed a contract with Perugia in 2016 that would have included the transfer fee in the event of a resale. The clubs and the chairmen were acquitted in July 2018.

Mancini has been in the Atalanta Bergamo squad since summer 2017. He made his first appearance in Serie A on September 24, 2017 (6th matchday) in a 1-1 draw against his ex-club Fiorentina, when he replaced the injured Rafael Tolói in the 25th minute . He scored his first goal in the top Italian division on February 4, 2018 in a 1-0 win against Chievo Verona . In the 2017/18 season he was used in a total of eleven games, of which he completed three over the full distance. On matchday 10 of the 2018/19 season, Mancini scored a goal in a 3-0 win against Parma Calcio and prepared another.

National team

Mancini is Italy's U-21 international. He made his debut on September 1, 2017 in a 3-0 draw against Spain .
