Silvano Zorzi

Silvano Zorzi (born July 2, 1921 in Padua , † March 13, 1994 in Milan ) was an Italian civil engineer and important bridge builder , who became known for numerous viaducts on the first Italian highways.

Life

Silvano Zorzi was born in Padua, but soon moved with his parents to Treviso , where he graduated from high school in 1939. He then studied engineering in Padua.

In 1943, after the armistice of Cassibile , he was able to study at the École d'ingénieurs de l'Université de Lausanne, today's École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne , which he left in 1945 as a civil engineer. In the same year he received a degree in hydraulic engineering from the University of Padua .

The following year he worked with the Centro studi sugli stati di coazione elastici del CNR at the University of Turin on questions of prestressed concrete . Between 1947 and 1950 he was involved in design work in two engineering firms.

In 1950 he opened his own office for reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures, from which the IN.CO engineering office emerged in 1961 .

In 1962 he became a member of the Fédération Internationale de la Précontrainte (fip) and in the following years he was active in various Italian and international professional associations.

In 1978 he received the fip medal in recognition of his work as a designer.

Silvano Zorzi died in Milan in 1994.
