The Gorsexio Viaduct ( Italian Viadotto Gorsexio ) stands west of Genoa in the Ligurian Apennines in the course of the Autostrada A26 (also called Autostrada dei Trafori ( tunnel motorway )), which here in a large loop and with many tunnels and bridges allow the ascent from the coast the tunnel located at 420  m slm height under the Passo del Turchino . It stands above the village of Mele and crosses the Torrente Gorsexio and the Strada provinciale del Turchino.

The 672 m long, curved viaduct is located at road kilometers 6 + 100. For each direction of travel, it has its own superstructures with three lanes at a distance of around 1.5 m, but no hard shoulder. It has six openings, three of which have a span of 144 m. The bridge crosses the Torrente Gorsexio at a height of 177 m.

The carriageway girders are 13.05 m wide, but are widened to 16.55 m in the eastern third for the acceleration and deceleration lanes of the Turchino service station adjacent to the bridge . The superstructures each consist of a rectangular pre - stressed concrete hollow box with a variable construction height and a correspondingly cantilevered deck.

Its largest pillar is 165 m high, measured from the foot to the deck. When it was completed, it was, together with the pillar of the Sente Viaduct, the tallest bridge pillar in the world until it was replaced by the Kochertal Bridge two years later . The reinforced concrete pillars common to both superstructures initially have a rectangular hollow cross-section. In the upper 40 m, they are divided into two slats made of prestressed concrete for each superstructure, which are rigidly connected to the respective hollow box. The pillars were erected with climbing formwork ; then the hollow girders were cantilevered from each pier head.

The bridge was designed by Silvano Zorzi , Giorgio Grasselli and Enrico Faro from the engineering office INCO , which originally goes back to Silvano Zorzi. Construction work began in 1972. The first bridge was opened on August 11, 1977, and the second bridge followed in June 1978.
