Luis Javier García Sanz (born June 24, 1978 in Badalona ) is a former Spanish football player .

Career

The path to becoming a superstar

García's career began in the talent factory of FC Barcelona . After several years in the youth team, he was accepted together with Xavi for the 1997/98 season in the B-team of the Catalans, where you could win the third division championship in 1998. After this season he was already nominated for the first team, but could not prevail there, so he was awarded to Real Valladolid for the 1999/2000 season . On his return he was loaned to CD Toledo in January 2001 , which was then playing in the Segunda División .

After six months it was awarded again, this time to the second-class CD Tenerife . There he matured in a short time under Rafael Benítez to the leading player and belonged to Mista and Curro Torres to the team, which in 2001 succeeded in promotion to the Primera División .

After another year on loan at Real Valladolid , he was loaned to Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2002 with an option to buy , where he scored 9 goals in 30 league games. After just one season he returned to Barcelona in 2003, where he was now often used as a supplementary player. In 25 league appearances, he scored 4 goals for his home club.

Liverpool FC and return to Spain

Luis García moved from Barcelona to Liverpool in August 2004 for € 8,750,000 and had a good first season there, scoring 13 goals. He won the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool FC and played a key role in this success. After scoring three goals against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the round of 16 and also scored against Juventus Turin , his goal made it 1-0 in the semi-final against Chelsea .

Liverpool coach Rafael Benítez saw a great talent in Luis García and built a powerful team around him, around Xabi Alonso and around Steven Gerrard in the following 2005/06 season. This season Liverpool was eliminated in the last 16 of the Champions League , but García was able to contribute to another title win with the triumph in the FA Cup . In the 2006/07 season, however, Garcia tore a cruciate ligament in his right knee in the League Cup against Arsenal London on January 12, 2007 and was out for the rest of the season.

In July 2007 he moved back to the Primera División to Atlético Madrid for 4,000,000 euros, where he was primarily used in the left attacking midfield.

In the 2009/10 season he was loaned to Racing Santander . There he played 15 league games, four of them in the starting line-up and remained without a goal.

For the 2010/11 season he moved to Panathinaikos Athens on a free transfer .

On January 14th, 2014, García announced on the homepage of UNAM Pumas, his career end.

On July 19, 2014 the resignation of resignation was announced. García moved to the Indian soccer team Atlético de Kolkata in the newly formed Indian Super League . He made his debut there on October 12, 2014.

In January 2016 he signed another six - month contract with Australian A-League participant Central Coast Mariners .

National team

For Spain, Luis García has played 20 games since his debut on March 26, 2005 against China (3-0). With a hat trick in his second game, the playoff first leg against Slovakia, he shot his country to the 2006 World Cup . He took part in three of the four Spanish games and was only spared in the last insignificant group game.

Luis García was also active for the Catalan national football team , which has not yet been accepted into international associations.
