The FA Cup 2005/06 was the 125th staging of the world's oldest soccer cup tournament; The Football Association Challenge Cup , or FA Cup for short . This cup season started with 674 clubs. The final should take place in the newly built Wembley Stadium in London . Due to delays in construction, the final took place again at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff , Wales . The two semi-finals were played on a neutral pitch.
The cup competition began with the extra preliminary round on August 20, 2005 and ended with the final on May 13, 2006. The winner of this event was Liverpool FC .

The FA Cup is played in rounds. Any team that has a certain level of performance and an appropriate playing field can take part. The game is played i. d. Usually only with a first leg. In the event of a tie, a second leg takes place. If the second leg also ends in a draw, the game goes into extra time or penalty shoot-out. This mode lasts until the sixth main round. From the semi-finals onwards there is only one game, possibly with extra time and penalty shoot-out.
Some teams are exempt from certain rounds:
- In the second qualifying round, the teams from Conference North / South (6th division of the English league) are added.
- In the fourth qualifying round, the teams of the Conference National (5th division of the English league) are added.
- In the first main round, the teams of League 1 and 2 of the Football League (3rd and 4th division of the English league) are added.
- In the third main round on the first weekend in January, the teams from the Football League Championship (2nd division of the English league) and the Premier League (1st division of the English division) are added
Each winner receives a bonus from the television money, which is staggered according to the round.
Main round
First main round
In the first main round, the 24 teams of Football League One or Two enter the competition.
The games were played on November 5, 2005. The replay took place in the week of November 14, 2005.
Second main round
The games were played on December 3rd and 4th, 2005. The replay took place on December 13, 2005.
Third main round
In this round, the teams of the FA Premier League (20 teams) and the teams of the Football League Championship (24 teams) enter the competition.
The games were played on January 7th and 8th, 2006. The replays are scheduled for January 17th and 18th.
Fourth main round
The games took place on January 28th and 29th, 2006. The replays followed on February 7th and 8th of that year.
