mode
complete overview at: FA Cup
The FA Cup is played in rounds. Any team that has a certain level of performance and an appropriate playing field can take part. Usually only one game is played. In the event of a tie, a replay takes place. If the replay also ends in a draw, the game goes into overtime and, if necessary, into a penalty shoot-out. This mode lasts until the sixth main round (corresponds to the quarter-finals). From the semi-finals onwards there is only one game, possibly with extra time and penalty shoot-out.
Some teams were exempt from certain rounds:
- In the second qualifying round, the teams from Conference North / South (6th division of the English league) were added.
- In the fourth qualifying round, the teams of the Conference National (5th division of the English league) were added.
- In the first main round, the teams of League One and Two of the Football League (3rd and 4th division of the English league) were added.
- In the third main round on the first weekend in January, the teams of the Football League Championship (2nd division of the English league) and Premier League (1st division of the English division) were added.
The semi-finals took place in a neutral place, the final in Wembley Stadium.
Each winner received a bonus from the television money, which was staggered according to rounds.
