history

The first documentary mention of a church in All Saints is in 1454. The church in All Saints belonged to various manors over the centuries, for example from 1551 to the Lordship of Schwertberg. Pastoral care was initially provided by the Tragwein parish church , it only became a parish exposition of Tragwein in 1784 , and became an independent parish in 1891.

The founding legend says:

Around the year 1490, a peasant infected with the plague lived in Allerheiligen . His last wish was to put his body on a cart, harness some cattle and let them go free. He was to be buried in the place where they stopped and a hut built for prayer. The place where the car stopped was uninhabited wilderness. Many people, especially the sick, who hoped for recovery soon made a pilgrimage to the small chapel built from a huge pine tree and donated so much money that the construction of today's church could already be started in 1492.

The parish, which is managed under parish number 4008, looks after 610 Catholics who, with the exception of the villages of Judenleiten and Niederlebing in the south, which belong to the parish of Perg and the villages of Baumgarten, Hennberg and Kriechbaum in the west, belong to the parish of Allerheiligen in the Mühlkreis .

The parish essentially includes the villages of Allerheiligen and Oberlebing as well as a very small section of the market town of Tragwein.

Renovations in the interior included the renewal of the old pulpit in 1747, the laying of a stone pavement in 1767, the purchase of a new tabernacle in 1827, the repair of the altars in 1831 and the restoration of the altarpiece in 1845, introduction of the electric light in 1948, installation of the popular altar in 1970. Between 1972 and 1985 the church has been thoroughly renovated both inside and outside.

architecture

Today's pilgrimage church is a three-aisled , four-bay late Gothic nave hall with baroque groined vaults . The construction of a massive church in the dimensions that still exist, with a total length of 29 meters, a width of the nave of 12 meters and a width of the presbytery of 8 meters, began in 1504, the oratory above the sacristy was completed in 1521, the church tower 1522. The nave was rebuilt after a fire in the first half of the 17th century (1649). There are late Gothic galleries on three sides of the church .

The sacristy with a cell vault is located on the ground floor of the Gothic, 35 meter high south tower . On the western gable facade rises the Schneckenturm , an octagonal stair tower that is open to the public and can be climbed on 62 steps of a free-floating, spindle-less spiral staircase. A bell from the 15th century, which was already used in the originally built wooden church, also rings in the four-part bell of the church . The three other bells were purchased in 1950 as a replacement for the bells that were removed for war purposes in the World Wars, with significant support from Kamig AG and the population.

In addition to the major renovation work after the fire in 1649, other renovations were carried out on the church building, including the new roofing of the tower in 1766, the renewal of the church windows destroyed by hail in 1796, new external plastering in 1840, gilded cross and tin roof for the tower in 1892, and renewal of the northern one in 1897 Church gate, 1924, cladding of the church tower with Eternit, 1931 renewal of the church clock. Between 1972 and 1985 the church was thoroughly renovated both outside and inside.

In the chancel there is a Gothic tabernacle and a Gothic gallery.

Furnishing

The high altar is a neo-Gothic work by Franz Oberhuber from 1879. In the center is a figure of Our Lady healing a mentally ill person (founding legend) and various statues of saints and reliefs with scenes from the life of Mary. The two side altars are also neo-Gothic (1890/1903) and dedicated to St. Joseph or the Sacred Heart - dedicated to Jesus. There are also numerous statues of saints on both side altars.

A special feature of the pilgrimage church is the early baroque organ from the 17th century. A narrow, tall case with reconstructed double doors houses a work with ten registers on one manual. The All Saints Organ Days with musicians from all over the world take place every summer . The medium-tone organ is one of the oldest and rarest instruments in Austria. The organ was restored in 1995 by master organ builders Marc Garnier and Reinhold Humer. The pipe inventory was completed and the organ was restored to its original mid-tone tuning. The funds were raised by an organ association.
