history

History of the parish

A church in Rechberg was mentioned in a document as early as 1209 as a branch church of Pierbach . Rechberg became an independent parish in 1656 and was incorporated into the Dominican convent of Windhaag from 1673 to 1782 . At that time, Joachim Enzmilner designated his tavern as the church's parsonage.

In the course of the Josephine reforms, Rechberg was assigned to the Wartberg deanery. With effect from January 1st 1909 Rechberg came to the deanery Pabneukirchen. After the Pabneukirchen deanery was dissolved, the parish has been part of the Perg deanery since January 1st, 1974.

Since rooms in the rectory could be adapted after the Second World War, Rechberg has had a rectory since that time.

History of the church

Building

The core of the baseless nave of the church is still Romanesque , which is also underpinned by the remains of frescoes from the 13th century on the north wall discovered in 1956 . Originally it was a late Romanesque rectangular hall church with a flat ceiling. In 1440 the church was renovated and expanded , probably after it was destroyed by the Hussites , adding late Gothic elements. Just as wide as the nave is the two-bay choir with a three-eighth end, which is equipped with a ribbed vault and dates from around 1530. In the northern corner of the choir is the tower, which is equipped with a pointed helmet. The sacristy was rebuilt in 1949 and expanded in 1991. In 1970 the church received heating. In 1979 the upper part of the tower was expanded, covered with Eternit and is now 25.5 meters high. In 1995 the exterior of the church was renovated.

Interior decoration
Interior of the church

The church has a baroque high altar with round column architecture from the mid-18th century. The early baroque altarpiece shows the church patron. On the left of the altar is the statue of a female martyr with a cross and on the right the statue of St. Apollonia . In the excerpt you can see God in the clouds between St. Nepomuk and St. Aloisius . The tabernacle, pieta and statues of saints Joachim and Anna were made by Balthasar Melber from Enns and can be dated to 1730.

The font was created in the 14th century. The year 1692 is on the pulpit decorated with evangelist statuettes.

The chancel was thoroughly renovated in 2000 and a folk altar and an ambo in baroque style were added. In 2006 the church was given disabled access.

organ

The housing of the Rechberg organ dates from 1700 and was transferred from the Windhaag castle chapel to Rechberg in 1782. The organ parapet from 1600 shows earthly music in the form of women and heavenly music in the form of angels in the ten fields.

Bells

A bell from 1482 has been preserved in Rechberg. This is decorated with a gothic minuscule inscription, in between there are coin prints and rosettes. The parish church has 4 bells (g, h, d, g) from 1950 with a total weight of 1150 kilograms.
