Tadeusz Płoski

Tadeusz Stefan Płoski (born March 9, 1956 in Lidzbark Warmiński (Heilsberg), Warmia-Masuria , Poland ; † April 10, 2010 in Smolensk , Russia ) was the Roman Catholic military bishop of the Polish Armed Forces .

Life

Tadeusz Płoski joined the seminary "Hosianum" in Warmia in 1976. After his theological training, he was ordained a priest on June 6, 1982 by Bishop Jan Obłąk and studied canon law at the Catholic University of Lublin from 1983 to 1986 . In 1993 he was at the Catholic Academy of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw with a thesis on the bishops of the diocese of Warmia in 1957 to 1971. Dr. iur. can. PhD . At the Nikolaus-Kopernikus-Universität Thorn he completed his habilitation with a paper on pastoral care in the Polish army . In 1994 he completed his postdoc at the Polish military academy "Akademia Obrony Narodowej" and was then assistant professor at the law faculty of the University of Warmia-Masuria .

Pope John Paul II appointed him military bishop of the Polish armed forces on October 16, 2004. He was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Nuncio in Poland, Archbishop Józef Kowalczyk , on October 30, 2004; Co- consecrators were his predecessor, Archbishop Sławoj Leszek Głódź , and Edmund Piszcz , Archbishop of Warmia. His motto was Mane nobiscum Domine! (“Stay with us, Lord!”).

In 2008 he was appointed full professor at the University of Warmia and Mazury and took over the management of the Department of Administrative Law and Administrative Sciences at the Faculty of Law and Administration.

Płoski was a member of the Polish Armed Forces since 1992. In 2006, he was promoted to Division General of the Polish Armed Forces.

On April 10, 2010, Płoski was part of a Polish delegation headed by President Lech Kaczyński , who was to travel to the memorial in Russia on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre . However, in a plane crash of the delegation near the Smolensk-Nord military airfield , he was killed along with other high-ranking representatives of Poland.

In addition to numerous honors, in 2008 Płoski was honored with the Order of Polonia Restituta , the second highest award in the Polish Republic . He also received the Silver (1999) and the Golden Cross of the Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland (2007). He was a member of the Order of St. Stanislaus .

Posthumously , Płoski was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (Krzyż Komandorski Orderu Odrodzenia Polski) on April 16, 2010 .
