Sławoj Leszek Głódź (born August 13, 1945 in Bobrówka , Poland ) is a Polish clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Danzig .

Life

After high school came Sławoj Leszek Głódź 1964 in the seminary of Białystok and studied Catholic theology and philosophy . On June 14, 1970 he received the sacrament of ordination through Henryk Roman Gulbinowicz . He then studied canon law at the Catholic University of Lublin and at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome . 1980 doctorate he became Dr. iur. can. in the area of Eastern Church Law . He then worked for the Congregation for the Eastern Churches from 1981 to 1991 . Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) on September 8, 1984 .

Controversy

In the run-up to Głódź's appointment to the Gdańsk bishopric, criticism and concerns, especially from circles of Polish intellectuals, as well as from the former Solidarność chairman and former Polish President Lech Wałęsa , were loud because Głódź supported the national conservative Radio Maryja and was a skeptic of a united Europe was true.
