Henryk Roman Gulbinowicz
Henryk Roman Cardinal Gulbinowicz (born October 17, 1923 in Szukiszki near Vilnius , today Lithuania ) is retired Archbishop of Breslau , Poland .
Life
Henryk Gulbinowicz studied at the Seminary of Białystok the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology and he received 1950 the sacrament of Holy Orders . He then worked in Szudzialowo as an assistant chaplain and in 1951 took up a doctorate degree at the Catholic University of Lublin , where he obtained a theological doctorate in 1955 with a dissertation in the field of moral theology .
From 1956 to 1959 he worked as a student chaplain in Białystok and was then a lecturer at the Seminary of Warmia until 1970 and at the same time for the Diocesan Administration of Allenstein . In 1970 Pope Paul VI appointed him . the titular bishop of AccI and Apostolic Administrator of the Polish area of the Archdiocese of Vilnius in Białystok.
He received the episcopal ordination on February 9, 1970 from Primate Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski . Co- consecrators were Józef Drzazga (titular bishop of Siniandus) and Kazimierz Jan Majdanski (titular bishop of Zorolus). Six years later Gulbinowicz became archbishop of the important Silesian Archdiocese of Wroclaw , which he chaired until April 2004. Pope John Paul II. Took Henryk Gulbinowicz on 25 May 1985 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Immaculate Conception of Mary a Grottarossa into the College of Cardinals on. Gulbinowicz is a member of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches .
For decades, Gulbinowicz gave October 17, 1928 as his date of birth. In February 2005, it was announced that he was five years older than previously assumed. His date of birth was changed in 1942 in order to avoid being deported to Germany as a forced laborer by the Nazi regime .
At the request of the children, he received the international award as Cavalier of the Order of Smiles .
