Edward Kisiel

Edward Kisiel (born February 24, 1918 in Jundziłowo , † September 28, 1993 in Białystok ) was a Polish clergyman and first bishop and archbishop of Białystok .

Life

The young Edward Kisiel was arrested at the beginning of the Second World War , but escaped during the deportation and hid in Warsaw . He studied theology and was ordained a priest on February 14, 1943 by Kazimierz Bukraba , Bishop of Pinsk , in Warsaw .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on May 3, 1976 as Apostolic Administrator in the Administratur Białystok and at the same time titular Bishop of Limata . He was ordained bishop on June 27, 1976 by the Archbishop of Warsaw , Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski ; Co- consecrators were Henryk Roman Gulbinowicz , Archbishop of Wroclaw , and Bronisław Dąbrowski , Auxiliary Bishop in Warsaw.

On June 5, 1991, Pope John Paul II appointed him the first bishop of the newly founded diocese of Białystok and with the elevation to the archbishopric on March 25, 1992 to the archbishop of Białystok.

On May 15, 1993 Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

He found his final resting place in the crypt of the Cathedral of Białystok.
