Henryk Hoser SAC (born November 27, 1942 in Warsaw , Poland , then Generalgouvernement ) is a Polish religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Warsaw-Praga as well as a former Archbishop of the Curia .

Life

Henryk Hoser attended elementary school in Pruszków and secondary school in Warsaw. He then studied at the Medical Academy in Warsaw , where he obtained his diploma in medicine in 1966 and then worked as an assistant at the university. In 1969 he joined the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (SAC) of St. Vincent Pallotti , where he made his temporary vows on September 8, 1970 . From 1970 to 1974 he studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Seminary of the SAC in Ołtarzew (Poland).

On June 16, 1974, the Warsaw Auxiliary Bishop Władysław Miziołek ordained him to the priesthood . From 1974 to 1975 he studied French and tropical medicine in Paris in preparation for his work as a missionary in Rwanda . From 1975 to 1995 he was a missionary in Rwanda, where he held various offices: parish vicar , parish priest , representative of the animation of the family apostolate, representative of the apostolic training of the lay people; Commissioner for the promotion of the press apostolate.

In 1978 he founded a center for health and social services in Kigali , which he directed himself for 17 years, and a center for family pastoral care ( Action Familiale ). For several years he served as secretary of the Episcopal Commission on Health and the Episcopal Commission on the Family. He was also chairman of the Association of Associated Medical Centers in Kigali (BUFMAR), director of an AIDS observatory and director of a program for the psychological, medical and social care of AIDS sufferers.

During his time as a missionary in Rwanda, he was also regional superior of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate ( Pallottines ) and chairman of the Conference of Superiors and Superiors of Societies of Apostolic Life (COSUMA) in Rwanda for 10 years . In 1994 he participated in the Africa Synod as an expert on family issues and development. Also in 1994, during the absence of the Apostolic Nuncio in Rwanda, he was appointed Apostolic Visitator in that country. In this office he worked for two years until a new Vatican representative was appointed. From 1996 to 2003 he was Regional Superior of the Pallottines and member of the Mission Council of the Conference of Religious Superiors in France. During these years he attended seminaries in various mission countries on behalf of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Nations . He was a co-founder of the "Federation Africaine de l'Action Familiale" founded in 2001 . From 2004 he headed the mission procuration of the Pallottines as rector in Brussels (Belgium), where he also worked as a pastor for the European Community .

Hoser was appointed Titular Archbishop of Tepelta and Associate Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and President of the Pontifical Mission Societies on January 22, 2005 by Pope John Paul II . He was ordained bishop by Crescenzio Cardinal Sepe on March 19 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Pope's personal secretary, Archbishop Stanisław Dziwisz , and the Archbishop of Kigali , Thaddée Ntihinyurwa .

On May 24, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . while retaining the personal title of Archbishop Bishop of Warsaw-Praga . The enthronement took place on June 28, 2008. On July 4, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. as Consultor of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

Henryk Hoser was born on September 23, 2009 by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed member of the Second Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for Africa (October 4 to 25, 2009). In 2011 he received the honorary citizenship of the city of Warsaw.

On February 11, 2017, Pope Francis appointed Hoser as his special envoy for Medjugorje . It is supposed to gather knowledge about the situation on site and the needs of the pilgrims and to make suggestions for pastoral initiatives. Hoser's mandate, which he performs alongside the management of his diocese, should be completed by the summer of 2017. The exclusively pastoral character of this mission was expressly emphasized.

On December 8, 2017, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.

Political positions

Henryk Hoser is an avowed opponent of abortion , the morning-after pill and artificial insemination . He is quoted on the subject of abortion as saying "The children are killed where their safest place should be - under the mother's heart".

In 2016, as part of the political discussion in Poland on the tightening of the abortion ban on the state TV broadcaster TVP Info , he disseminated the scientifically false statement that rape victims have a lower probability of becoming pregnant.
