Crescenzio Sepe
Crescenzio Cardinal Sepe (born June 2, 1943 in Carinaro , Province of Caserta , Italy ) is a former Cardinal Curia of the Roman Catholic Church and Archbishop of Naples .
Life
After studying philosophy and theology, Crescenzio Sepe received the sacrament of ordination in 1967 . After further studies , he obtained a doctorate in theology, canon law and philosophy. He then worked as a lecturer at the Lateran University and at the Urbaniana University before he was sent to Brazil as diplomatic envoy . Pope Paul VI bestowed on him on June 5, 1977 the title of chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ). 1987 appointed him Pope John Paul II. For Assessor in the Secretariat of State and President of the Commission on media issues of the Vatican .
In 1992, John Paul II appointed him titular Archbishop of Gradum and secretary of the Congregation for the Clergy and ordained him episcopal on April 26 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the then archbishop of Krakow, Franciszek Cardinal Macharski , and the then Cardinal Secretary of State , Angelo Cardinal Sodano .
On February 21, 2001 he was accepted into the College of Cardinals as a cardinal deacon with the title diaconia Dio Padre misericordioso .
On April 9 of the same year he was called to be Prefect Cardinal of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples . Linked to this was the task of Magnus Cancellarius of the Pontifical Urban University. He is a member of the Congregation for the Clergy .
Sepe participated in the 2005 conclave in which Benedict XVI. was chosen. This appointed him on May 20, 2006 archbishop of Naples and elevated him to cardinal priest. On July 1, 2006, he was enthroned as the successor to Cardinal Michele Giordano .
After the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI. Cardinal Sepe was drawn on March 4, 2013 as assistant to the cardinal chamberlain (as a representative of the cardinal priests). He was a member of the special congregation for three days, which regulated subordinate issues during the vacancy . He participated in the 2013 conclave that Pope Francis elected.
