The parish church Schwertberg is located south of the market square in Schwertberg in the district of Perg in Upper Austria's Mühlviertel and is consecrated to Saints Philip and James .

The late Gothic church building from the 15th century had two aisles , was expanded in 1913/1914 to its present size and shape and thoroughly renovated inside and outside in 1985.

In ecclesiastical matters, the area of ​​Schwertberg belonged to the mother parish of Naarn in the diocese of Passau, which was already mentioned in documents in 823 .

The time and style of construction of the branch church in Schwertberg can no longer be determined.

A late Gothic new building was built around 1500 using a two-aisled nave . The two central aisles of the church are the same height. Octagonal pillars support a ribbed vault . The narrow side aisles are much lower in the front part due to the basilical scheme . From the west wall, the gallery spans onto the nave on both sides with side galleries.

The choir has two yokes and a 3/8 end . Located on the south wall of the choir-a plate with the crest of Tschernembls from before the 1620th

The sacristy was built around 1700 . The statue on the south wall depicts Saint Roch and dates from 1717.

On the outside wall of the church there are tombstones of various personalities, u. a. Daniel Trölß († 1736) and Alix von Habsburg-Toskana and their three daughters.

The Marien side altar (left) dates from 1747 and shows Mary with the baby Jesus from 1886 by Engelbert Westreicher . To the left of the altar is a figure of John the Baptist and to the right of St. Joseph .

The right side altar is dedicated to St. Margaret .

The Anna side altar was purchased in 1750. The altarpiece has a figure niche and is framed by pilasters . In the niche are St. Anne with her daughter Maria , with two prophets to one side. The Anna altar is equipped with changing altarpieces related to the church year .

In 1777 Count Josef Gundaker Thürheim had a crypt built next to the south-east corner of the church. The building has a large basket arch - arcade and a hipped roof . A sundial was painted on the south wall . Inside there is a crucifix from 1730 and several inscription plates from people who died between 1793 and 1909, including Floridus Fromwald (last abbot of Waldhausen Abbey) and Prince Andrei Kirillowitsch Rasumowski (Russian ambassador in Vienna).

The baptismal font with John the Baptist in front of the Anna altar was purchased in 1879.

On the east side of the buttresses- supported apse is a life-size wooden crucifix from the period after 1900.

Pastor Hiptmair had the parish church on the west side enlarged from 1913 to 1914 according to plans by cathedral builder Matthäus Schlager with a three-bay annex in the shape of a cross and a two-aisled extension at window height on the long sides and heightened the church tower .

The windows of the north wall were donated by various people on the occasion of the church expansion and show, among other things. a. the handing over of the keys to Peter, the blessing of the children by Jesus, Jesus after his resurrection with the disciples in Emmaus and St. Sebastian .

On the north wall of the choir, above the opening to the tower, there is an oratorio window in neo-Gothic form with three lanes from 1913/1914.

The high altar was also put together in 1913/1914 from parts of the baroque high altar from 1774. There is a box-shaped above the altar rococo - Tabernacle from 1774, flanked laterally by two angels. In one is relief from the year 1683 with Rocaille - ornamentation seen. The two figures to the right and left of the altar table represent the two church patrons .

In 1924 the organ with two manuals and 15 registers in two separate cases was built by Wilhelm Zika (1872–1955) from Ottensheim.

On the galleries there are pictures of the Way of the Cross by Adolf Wutschl from 1925.

The windows on the south wall were donated by Schwertbergers in the 1930s. a. Christ before Caiaphas, the denial of Peter, the stigmatization of Francis of Assisi .

A renovation of the church and the altars took place between 1956 and 1957 under Pastor Karl Landl. Pastor Johann Stöllnberger had the church completely refurbished, paying special attention to liturgical conditions. Among other things, he had the chancel lifted, the confessionals renewed, the pulpit removed and the people's altar and ambo installed.
