History of the parish

In ecclesiastical matters, the area of Arbing belonged to the mother parish of Naarn in the Diocese of Passau , which was mentioned in a document in 823, and the castle chapel of the medieval castle complex served as a baptistery. In 1147 Arbing was incorporated into the newly founded Waldhausen Abbey and in 1792, after the abbey was abolished, it was placed under the religious fund. Since 1939 Arbing has been a parish freely conferred by episcopates. In 1335 there was a pastoral care center (branch) of the Mitterkirchen parish in Arbing. In 1653 Arbing was first mentioned as a parish. The school system can be traced back to 1657.

History of the parish church

Building

The oldest parts of the church are the north and west walls of the nave , which are probably remnants of the Romanesque castle .

In 1483 the former castle chapel was included in the nave and the church was expanded into an asymmetrical two-aisled 3-bay nave hall. The choir is 2-yoke with a 3/8 end. The main nave is north and has a star rib vault with domed vaulted shells.

The western gallery has a Blendemaßwerkbrüstung with rosettes in Dreischneuß motif. In the eastern presbytery there are parts of original Gothic stained glass . It rests on a three-axis, two-bay vault with cross and star ribs.

The rectangular portal on the south wall comes from the late Gothic period. Above it is the relief Baptism of Christ from 1520.

Facility

The neo-Gothic high altar , built in 1904, was made by Ludwig Linzinger . The statue to the left of the high altar represents St. Florian and the statue to the right represents St. Theodore . To the right of the triumphal arch between the choir and the side altar is a late Gothic Maria with child Jesus , which was made around 1510 by an unknown artist from the school of the master of the Kefermarkt Altarpiece made of limewood . The crucifixion picture on the east side of the chancel dates from the beginning of the 17th century.

organ

Organ with 7 stops

It was built by Josef Breinbauer from 1858, according to today's value around 82,738 euros, and commissioned in 1861. In the course of the “metal donation” for World War I, the original prospect pipes had to be handed over to the War Ministry on February 8, 1918 . In 1927 the organ builder Josef Panhuber added 39 new zinc pipes to the organ. After a break of around 30 years, the seven-register organ was renovated in the early 2000s and consecrated again on June 4, 2004 by Diocesan Bishop Maximilian Aichern .

Other buildings, cemetery

The parish is also responsible for the administration of the local and parish cemetery. In 2011, a St. Francis chapel was consecrated next to the cemetery on private property .
