Johannes Dinckel (born June 23, 1545 in Tröchtelborn , † December 24, 1601 in Coburg ) was a German Protestant theologian and first general superintendent in Coburg.

Life

After attending grammar school in Gotha , where he a. a. was taught by Cyriacus Lindemann , Dinckel studied at the University of Wittenberg and at the University of Erfurt , where he obtained the degree of master's degree in 1567 . He devoted himself primarily to the Hebrew language, then became professor of logic at the Protestant grammar school and, from 1572, professor of Hebrew language at the University of Erfurt.

In 1580 he moved to Gotha, where he worked as archdeacon and as rector at the grammar school . Just three years later, in 1583, he followed a call to Coburg as pastor and superintendent . Later he was the first pastor of Coburg to hold the title of general superintendent.

Dinckel was held in high regard for his knowledge of the Hebrew language. In the Coburg region he visited churches and schools on behalf of Duke Johann Casimir , was the author of regulations for the city schools and founded the library of the Morizkirche .
