Salomon Armand Magloire Kalou (born August 5, 1985 in Oumé , Gôh-Djiboua ) is an Ivorian football player . He is under contract with the Brazilian first division club Botafogo FR .

ASEC Abidjan and Feyenoord Rotterdam

Kalou started his career at ASEC Mimosas . From there he moved to Feyenoord Rotterdam in the summer of 2003 . In the meantime, he was loaned to the partner club Excelsior Rotterdam in the 2004/05 season before returning to the professional squad. With his two goals against Schalke 04 (2-1) Feyenoord moved into the round of 16 of the 2004/05 UEFA Cup and was eliminated from Sporting Lisbon . By then he had already scored two goals in competition and nine in the Dutch league.

In 2005 he was named the Netherlands' Footballer Talent of the Year .

Chelsea FC

On May 30, 2006 Kalou moved to the English professional club Chelsea. He was given the number 21 on his back. At the club he played with the Ivorian compatriot Didier Drogba and scored his first goal in the Premier League in December 2006 in a 3-2 win against Wigan Athletic . His first season with Chelsea ended with a League Cup final victory . Under coach Avram Grant , Kalou was still used and scored the sixth penalty in the penalty shoot-out in the Champions League final in Moscow, but Chelsea lost 5-6 in the end. In May 2009 Kalou won the FA Cup for the second time with Chelsea after beating Everton 2-1 .

In the 2011/12 season he won the FA Cup with Chelsea against Liverpool 2-1 and the Champions League 5-4 on penalties . In the Premier League he only made twelve appearances (one goal) and only played over 90 minutes twice. In the Champions League victory over FC Bayern Munich , Kalou was in the starting line-up because Ramires was suspended and was replaced in the 84th minute.

After 60 goals in 251 games for Chelsea, Kalou's contract expired in July 2012.

Lille OSC

In July 2012 Kalou moved to the French club OSC Lille . He received a contract until 2016, which was terminated prematurely. He scored 14 goals there in the 2012/13 season and 16 goals in the 2013/14 season .

Hertha BSC

At the beginning of the 2014/15 Bundesliga season , Kalou moved to Hertha BSC on August 31, 2014 , where he received a contract that was valid until 2017. His first competitive goal for Hertha was the 1-0 winner on September 24, 2014 (5th matchday) in the home game against VfL Wolfsburg . On October 3, 2014 (7th matchday), he scored two goals in a 3-2 home game against VfB Stuttgart . In the away game against Hannover 96 on November 6, 2015 (12th matchday) he scored his first three-pack in the Bundesliga . In March 2017, the BSC announced the extension of the existing contract until 2020.

After the Ivorian had delivered his best performance in his second season with 17 hits and two assists in 37 competitive games, he was subsequently a regular. In the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League , his only participation with the Berliners in the European Cup, he was eliminated with the team in the group stage. In 2019 he temporarily led the team as captain, scored eight league goals and finished eleventh with Hertha at the end of the season.

In the 2019/20 season , Kalou only made five mostly short league appearances and two cup games. During the winter break Kalou was the head coach Jurgen Klinsmann released to a new employer to seek and therefore did not fly into the winter training camp in the US. At the beginning of February 2020, Kalou returned to team training. Kalou was no longer used under Klinsmann's successor Alexander Nouri .

On May 4, 2020, Kalou streamed live from the cabin via Facebook during the season break necessary due to the COVID-19 pandemic . Kalou greeted fellow players and supervisors who did not know anything about this live broadcast with a handshake, disregarded distance regulations and filmed a conversation about the Hertha professionals' wage waiver. Shortly thereafter, Kalou was released from training and games. Michael Preetz , Hertha's Sport Managing Director, stated that Kalou had not only caused great damage to Hertha BSC with his video, but, above all, in the discussion about the resumption of game operations and the role of professional football, “gave the impression that individual players did that Do not take the Corona issue seriously ”.

Botafogo FR

On July 9, 2020, the Brazilian first division club Botafogo FR announced that Kalou had received a one-year contract for the 2020/21 season.

On February 6, 2007 Kalou made his debut in the Ivorian senior team , which won 1-0 against Guinea's selection in Rouen . In 96 other missions he scored 28 goals.
