Status: end of career

Boubacar Barry , also known as Copa , (born December 30, 1979 in Marcory , Abidjan ) is an Ivorian football goalkeeper who is under contract with Sporting Lokeren . He is considered one of the best goalkeepers in Africa.

Career

The goalkeeper began his career at ASEC Mimosas before moving to France for the Stade Rennes in 2000 . There he could n't get past Petr Čech . In 2003 he therefore moved - initially on loan, later as a permanent commitment - to the Belgian club KSK Beveren , where many Ivorians were under contract at the time. Barry's teammates in Beveren included Emmanuel Eboué , Romaric and Gervinho .

In 2007, Barry moved to SC Lokeren within Belgium . There he was voted the best goalkeeper in the league in the 2008/09 season. In 2012 and 2014 he won the Belgian Cup with Lokeren, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League .

In 2017 Barry moved back to Division 1B at Oud-Heverlee Löwen within Belgium . However, it was never used there.

International career

Barry made his debut as an international on June 18, 2000. The qualifying game for the 2002 World Cup against Tunisia ended 2-2.

By June 10, 2006, he played six international matches for the Ivory Coast national team and was also a substitute goalkeeper in the squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. In the last group game, the only victory of the Ivorian team, he was in goal instead of Jean-Jacques Tizié . Soon after, he became the national team's first goalkeeper and took part in the 2008 African Cup , the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the 2012 African Cup. In the latter tournament, he did not concede a goal from the game - in the final, the team Zambia lost on penalties.

Barry also took part in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with Ivory Coast. At the African Cup of Nations 2015 , he prevented three goals in the shoot-out in the final against Ghana and converted the decisive penalty himself. On March 2, 2015, he announced his retirement from the national team.

Career as a coach

In 2018, while he was officially part of the Oud-Heverlee Löwen squad , he was appointed goalkeeping coach for the Belgians for one year.
