The Stade Rennais Football Club ( Breton : Stad Roazhon ), known in German-speaking countries as Stade Rennes , is a French football club from the Breton capital, Rennes .
The club was founded in 1901 as Stade Rennais ; after the merger with Rennes FC (1904) it was called the Stade Rennais Université Club , and since 1972 Stade Rennais FC again . In the club register of the French Football Association he was given number 15, so he is a "veteran" of Breton football. The club colors are red and black; the first team plays its games in Roazhon Park, which has a capacity of 31,130 .
The club's president has been Jacques Delanoë since February 2019 ; the league team is coached by Julien Stéphan , who replaced Sabri Lamouchi . The club is owned by French billionaire François-Henri Pinault through his financial holding Groupe Artémis .
League affiliation
In the top division ( Division 1 , renamed Ligue 1 in 2002 ) Stade Rennais played 1932–1937, 1941–1943, 1944–1953, 1956/57, 1958–1975, 1976/77, 1983/84, 1985–1987, 1990 –1992 and since 1994.
Popular in Brittany
Despite the small list of successes and frequent relegations, the club has been extremely popular in Brittany for decades, which is reflected, among other things, in a large number of private websites around the club for French standards. In this position, other Breton clubs, which in the meantime also belonged to Ligue 1 ( En Avant Guingamp , Stade / Armorique Brest ) or were successful in the cup ( FC Lorient ), could not change anything. The biggest regional competitor has been the successful FC Nantes for decades , even if Naoned is no longer administratively part of Brittany. The trade magazine France Football rated the clashes between these two clubs as one of only four “true local derbies ” in France in 2017 .
