Salvador Artigas Sahún (born February 23, 1913 in Barcelona , † September 6, 1997 in Benidorm ) was a Spanish football player and coach.

Career

Artigas played for FC Barcelona in his youth . Due to the civil war that broke out in Spain , he emigrated to France in 1938 and played for Girondins Bordeaux . After one season he moved to Le Mans UC , where he stayed for five years until he joined Stade Rennes in 1944 . In 1949 he went back to Spain to the Basque club Real Sociedad San Sebastián . Three years later he became a player-coach at Stade Rennes.

When he ended his playing career at Rennes in 1955, the Catalan took over the coaching position at Real Sociedad San Sebastián for five years. Artigas coached Girondins Bordeaux between 1960 and 1967 . There his team was runner-up behind FC Nantes twice in 1965 and 1966 . His next coaching station, the only one where he could record a success with winning the Spanish Cup , was FC Barcelona from 1967 to 1969. In his first season with Barcelona, 1967/68, he won the said cup with the club and was Spanish runner-up. Also in his second season he was second in the league; in the European Cup Winners' Cup 1968/69 they failed in the final with 2: 3 to ŠK Slovan Bratislava . In the following season, Artigas resigned as coach of FC Barcelona after five league games. In 1969 he coached the Spanish national team for 4 international matches, in which 2 wins and 1 draw were achieved. Later he was still the coach of Elche FC , Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla FC .
