José Ángel Berraondo Insausti

José Ángel Berraondo Insausti (born November 4, 1878 in San Sebastián , † April 11, 1950 ) was a Spanish football player and coach. He coached the Spanish national team twice.

Career

With the Madrid Foot Ball Club , Berraondo won the Copa del Rey four times as team captain , later he moved back to his hometown and played for Real Sociedad San Sebastián . In 1918 he took over the coaching post there, which he held until 1923. In 1927 he returned as a coach to his former club in the capital, now trading as Real Madrid. At the beginning of the first season of the Primera División in February 1929, however, José Quirante replaced him as coach.

In 1921 Berraondo was part of a multi-member committee responsible for the Spanish national team . In 1928 he was again on the sidelines when the national team took part in the 1928 Summer Olympics. The 7-1 defeat against Italy in the quarter-finals of the tournament is the highest defeat of the national team to date.
