The FK Jablonec is a football club from the north Bohemian town of Jablonec nad Nisou (German Gablonz an der Neisse ), which has around 45,000 inhabitants .

Club history

In 1945 the ČSK Jablonec nad Nisou was founded. For a long time the club played in the lower leagues, in 1963 succeeded as Jiskra Jablonec promotion to the 2nd division of Czechoslovakia. From 1964 the LIAZ automobile plant from the neighboring town of Liberec was the supporting company of the association. In 1970 LIAZ Jablonec reached the Czech Cup final, but was defeated by TJ Gottwaldov .

Four years later, TJ LIAZ Jablonec rose to the first division, but was only able to stay there for one season. In 1986, the club was relegated to the third division, and it was not promoted to the second division until 1992. In 1993, the team was relegated to the first division and was defeated by Bohemians Prague in two games .

Just one year later, Jablonec was able to celebrate promotion to the first division and has been in the highest Czech league ever since. FK Jablonec 97 achieved their greatest club success in 1998 when they won the Czech Football Cup . In the European Cup Winners' Cup of the following season, the club was eliminated in the first round against the Cypriot club Apollon Limassol .

Jablonec had the most successful season in the championship in the 2009/2010 season. Here they played for the championship until the last matchday and finally came in second, one point behind the champions Sparta Prague. On May 17, 2013, the club won the national club cup for the second time with 5: 4 on penalties against FK Mladá Boleslav , after it had been 0-0 after 90 minutes.

Club names

Founded in 1945 as ČSK Jablonec nad Nisou. 1948 Renaming to SK Jablonec nad Nisou. Further renaming took place in 1955 in Sokol Preciosa Jablonec nad Nisou, in 1960 in Jiskra Jablonec nad Nisou, 1963 in TJ LIAZ Jablonec nad Nisou, 1993 in Sklobižu Jablonec nad Nisou, 1994 in FK Jablonec nad Nisou, 1998 in FK Jablonec 97.

On July 1, 2008, the association changed its name to FK BAUMIT Jablonec after the Austrian building materials manufacturer Baumit was won as a strategic partner. On July 1, 2015, the association returned to the name FK Jablonec (Fotbalový Klub Jablonec, as).
