Baumit is a building materials brand. The common umbrella brand of the Austrian building materials manufacturers Wopfinger Baustoffindindustrie and Wietersdorfer was founded in 1988. In 2017, the Wietersdorfer building materials division was taken over by the Wopfingen building materials industry.

The product range includes products in the field of facades, plasters , screeds , products for the interior and for garden and surface design.

The Austrian family-owned Baumit Group has its headquarters in Wopfing, Lower Austria, and its range is represented in more than 30 countries. Baumit GmbH employs around 600 people across Austria.

In the 2018 financial year, the Baumit Group managed to exceed the billion-euro turnover threshold for the first time. Internationally, the more than 3,300 employees generated around 1.2 billion euros.

Baumit is part of Schmid Industrie Holding , which is represented by over 100 companies and 130 production sites in 27 countries and employs around 6,200 people worldwide.

Baumit is investigating the effects of building materials on health and wellbeing in the Viva research park in Wopfing.

In twelve research houses with different construction methods, scientists from building physics, building chemistry and medicine analyze over five million pieces of data in Europe's largest research park for comparative building materials. The most important research findings are continuously used to further develop the products.
