Under the brand name Baumit, it produces and sells cement , lime , dry and facade plasters and screeds with around 400 employees (until 2017 as part of a corporate group together with the Wietersdorfer Group ) . With this, it achieved a turnover of around 158 million euros in 2011.

history

The company has been producing lime in Piestingtal since 1911 and is now the largest private lime producer in Austria . Since 1960, the quarry Waldegg limestone mined. Around 1.4 million tons of the building material are extracted here every year. The company has been one of the largest plaster manufacturers in Europe since the 1970s. After a cement plant was built in 1980, a large part of the demand in Austria was also produced. The company transports some of its finished products on the Gutenstein Railway and is therefore a major customer on this railway line, to which a siding has been in existence since 1914.

In 1989 the company received the state award and has since been allowed to use the federal coat of arms in business transactions.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary in 2011, the senior of the Schmid family, Friedrich Schmid, was awarded the Silver Commander's Cross for Services to the State of Lower Austria .

In 2017, the building materials division of the Wietersdorfer Group , based in Carinthia, which comprises 27 companies in 14 countries and employs 650 people, was taken over. This also includes the trademark rights of the brands "Baumit" and "Kema".

Maerzofen

In the 1950s, the company developed the Maerzofen , which uses the combustion gases from the production of lime for the burning process of the limestone, thereby increasing the efficiency of the ovens by 15%, which helps save natural gas.
